From April 1st 2011 prescription charges are £7.40p per item.

Prescription Prepayment Certificates (PPC) are available, and could save money for those patients who have to pay for  4 or more prescription items in 3 months, or 14 items in 12 months. The Prescription Pricing Division is responsible for issuing PPC's to people RESIDENT IN ENGLAND only, on behalf of the Department of Health. Ask at your surgery for leaflet HC11 'Are you entitled to help with Health Costs' - this booklet will tell you whether you are entitled to apply for a PPC. If you decide you are entitled then ask at your surgery for form FP95 which when completed will allow you to apply for a PPC.

If you are eligible, you can also buy a PPC on-line. Telephone 0845 850 0030 to purchase over the 'phone via your debit/credit card. A 12 month PPC can now also be purchased using a 10 month Direct Debit instalment payment. 

As from April 1st 2009 all patients being treated for Cancer will no longer be charged for their prescriptions - please ask at your surgery for details of how to claim exemption from payment.
